E Earthbound- Term used to describe spirits who have not been able to cross over and are stuck on the astral plane. This can be intentional as some spirits choose to remain on the earth to be near people or possessions or it may be the result of the earthbound spirit not knowing how to cross over. These spirits can usually be directed to the light by mediums. In the case of evil human spirits, they may choose to stay for reasons such as to exact revenge. These spirits can usually be expelled fairly easily. Ectoplasm- A substance which emanates from them body of a medium during a trance. This is often seen in pictures as a mist like substance. Some believe it is the life force of the medium. Other texts consider it the result of spirits manifesting. May be the physical effects of electromagnetic energy fields created by the medium or a spirit. Elementals- Spirits of the earth. Elementals are benign, almost angelic spirits who watch over the four elements, air-sylphs, earth-gnomes, fire-salamanders, and water nymphs. Also, lesser spirits of nature are called undines. Electromagnetic Field- A field propagated by a combination of electric and magnetic energy, which radiates from radio and light waves to gamma and cosmic rays. It is believed that when spirits manifest, they create or manipulate electromagnetic fields. This theory was pioneered by Dr. William Roll. EMF Detector- An instrument that measures electromagnetic energy. Also known as a Gauss Meter. Also known as a magnetometer. Energy- The driving force behind all forms of life. Energy Imprint- Same as a psychic recording. Engram- A trauma caused by shock, usually prenatal or suffered at an early age. Equipmental Transcommunication- Any method of communicating with the spirit world through the use of an electronic device. One example would be EVP’s. ESP- Extra sensory perception. A parapsychological term to denote awareness apparently received through channels other than the natural senses. Evil- Malignant, malicious. The act of doing something designed to hurt others or God Himself. Evil Spirits- Spirits whose intents are to hurt or destroy all that is good. They make every attempt to hurt man. In most cases, they were evil people in life. In rare instances, they become evil because they wish to exact revenge against someone still living. E.V.P.- Electronic voice phenomena. This is where voices are recorded where no one is present. It is felt by many that these voices are from spirits attempting to communicate with living people. In most cases, the voices recorded use only one or two words. In extremely rare instances, actual conversations have been recorded by this means. Exorcism- Solemn Religious ritual designed to free someone from the possession of a demon or devil. An exorcism can also be performed on an inanimate object, such as a dwelling where there is demonic infestation. Deliverance is a form of Exorcism as is suffimunigation. Exorcist- One who performs exorcisms. In almost all cases, exorcists are ordained ministers of their particular religion. In the Roman Catholic Church, a priest must have the permission of the local Bishop before he can perform an Exorcism. Most exorcists are specially trained in this area. However, from a Biblical sense, any Christian has the ability to cast devils out in the name of Christ. |
