DDeep Trance Medium- A psychic who allows a spirit to enter his/her body so that a spirit may communicate with the living. The spirit will speak to others present by means of the medium's vocal cords. This is as opposed to a Light Trance medium where the spirit communicates only with the medium. Déjà vu-The feeling of having previously experienced something actually being encountered for the first time. Although some regard this as a trick of the mind, it is one of the most common psychic experiences and happens to most people at some time in their lives. Deliverance- Christian ritual designed to rid a person of negative forces or influence. This can be used in situations where either a person, dwelling or other object is infested by demonic forces. Deliverance is also a form of Exorcism. In the Exorcism trilogy, Deliverance is the second level between suffimunigation and solemn Exorcism. Dematerialization- The sudden disappearance of an item that does not reappear elsewhere. If the object does reappear, that would be regarded as teleportation. An asport. Demon- An evil, inhuman spirit bent on the destruction of man. Demons are believed to be fallen Angels. In rank, they usually fall below the ranks of devils. Some texts consider the two to be the same. Demonic- Any manifestation or activity caused by demons. Possession of an individual would be demonic in nature as would infestation of a dwelling or other material object. Demonius- A stone so called from the supposed demoniacal rainbow that appears in it. Demonized- One who is suffering the effects resulting from a demon. Possession would be considered an example of this. Demonocracy- The government of demons. The immediate influence of evil spirits. The religion of people throughout the world who worship demons. Demonography- The history and descriptions of demons and all that is related to them. Demonologist- One who studies demons and their actions. This also applies to one who does battles with demons through Exorcism or Deliverance. Demonology- The study of demons and their actions. Demonomancy- A form of divination via demons by those who invoke them. This is often done to predict future events although it can be done for other purposes such as personal gain at the expense of someone else. Demonomania- The mania of those who believe all that is told to them relating to demons and their abilities and actions. People who are victims of this often attribute all negative consequences in their lives to demonic forces. Demonopathy- Suffering from the condition of being demonized. Dervish- Moslem mystic, ascetic holy man, religious fanatic. Devil- Lucifer or Satan, the leader of the fallen angels banished from Heaven. Although there are different opinions, many feel there are multiple devils with Satan being the leader. Devils are regarded to be more powerful than demons. Devil’s Mark- During witchcraft trials, any marking on a suspected witch’s body was said to be this. Stigmata Diaboli. During witchcraft trials, any marks on the skin were said to be this, including tattoos or scars. Diabolical- Any action caused by the Devil. While the term is usually applied specifically to the Devil, it can also be applied to demons as well. Extremely atrocious or inhuman. Discarnate- Spirit existing without a physical body. Angels, ghosts and demons would be considered discarnate beings. Discernment- To perceive or feel using the mind or senses. Mediums are said to be able to feel the presence of spirits and communicate with them. Most people have some degree of discernment ability although they often do not realize it. One can have discernment ability without being a medium. An example of discernment ability might be knowing who is on the phone just before answering it. Many in the field of psychic research have the ability to "feel' the presence of spirits and whether they are good or bad. However, they do not necessarily have the ability to communicate with them. While some people seem to have this ability at all times, in most cases it comes and goes. It is believed that this ability can be enhanced by using it more. Disembodied- Spirit functioning without a body. A disincarnate entity such as a ghost or demon. Disembodied Voice- A voice heard that comes from a source without a physical body. When captured on tape, this is known as “Electronic Voice Phenomena.” Divination- Obtaining knowledge of the unknown or the future by contacting forces outside of nature. There are many forms of divination such as Ouija Boards, Tarot Cards, Scrying, reading of tea leaves, to mention a few. In many religions including Christians, all forms of divination are considered something to be avoided. The Bible warns against divination. Doppelganger- An opposite double of a person or a spirit of a person outside of the body. Dowsing- Searching for water or metal by means of using a rod, usually made of wood. Druid- An ancient Celtic priest or medicine man.
